I studied B. Optom at Rand Afrikaans University, now known as University of Johannesburg, from 2003 and qualified in 2006. After that I worked in Norwood for two and a half years and then moved to the West Rand where I have been practicing optometry until we bought over the practice from Dr. Van Gool in November 2014.
My patients! I love interacting and helping people. Every patient is unique and special. I’ve realized that even though doing the same thing every day might become monotone for some people, each patient is very different, with their own stories, unique visual needs and different personalities and THAT makes my work fun.
ALWAYS listen to your Optometrist! We have your best interest at heart and want you to have the best eyesight you can have for as long as you can. Sight is very important, and you only realize how much when something goes wrong – don’t wait till that happens, love your eyes now.
Be good to your eyes. There is so many factors that can affect your vision. By doing small things early on, like wearing sunglasses or putting an Anti-glare coating on your spectacle lenses for computer work, can slow down or even prevent damage to your eye health and vision later in life.
I was in optics for a year and a half, but decided to take on other challenges where I was a receptionist for one of the biggest Attorney Firms in Gauteng. I then realised the place where I wanted to grow and build a future was in Optics. I then started at EyeLove in the beginning of 2017.
It is most definitely seeing how much people appreciate all the little things one does for them, like doing a repair on the spectacles not expecting anything in return but getting a ‘thank you’ with a hug or some cupcakes. EyeLove really loves giving back to our patients. It’s the little things that count the most.
For kiddies: Don’t ever let anyone bring you down about wearing glasses. It’s more important to see clearly than to care about what other people think. We are here to help you see better at home and in school. Wear your spectacles with pride, you look very smart.
For young patients: Don’t always go for branded or the look that’s in at the moment. It’s nice but remember your eye sight is more important than fashion, come and do an eye test with the goal of taking care of your eyes and not wanting to be “in”. We will always help you choose the perfect frame that fits your face the best.
For the elderly patients: I can imagine everything is difficult at this stage in life, but remember each and every one of us has to walk this path. With regards to eye surgery, yes, it can be scary, but we are here to help and ease your mind. Remember, we are here for you, even if you just want to pop in and chat.
