A: The frequency of eye examinations that is necessary, depends on the patient's age, eye health, condition of the visual system and whether the patient is using contact lenses or spectacle correction. A comprehensive eye examination at least every 2 years are recommended. For patients wearing contact lenses, have glaucoma or cataracts an annual eye test is recommended. Regular eye exams are important to ensure optimal visual performance and for early detection of eye conditions.

A: Yes, we do a visual screening and give you a certificate when you pass the screening.

A: Yes we do. It also forms part of the comprehensive eye examination that we do for every patient.

A: Yes we do. From fixing a screw or realigning the frames if they are bent. In some cases we might need to send your frames in to our lab for soldering.

It is always best to pop in and try on some frames to see what suits your style, we are here to guide you on what frames will suit your face.

A: DEFENITELY NOT with your shirt! The quick and easy option is lens wipes – we have ZEISS lens wipes that you can use for your spectacles lenses, your camera lens and your smartphone screen. They work like little alcohol swabs. They are cheap and effective. Or you can use the soft cloth we give with every pair of spectacles with a little sunlight liquid and water in a spray bottle.

A: The best would be to mention to us when you come in for a comprehensive eye examination, that you want to try contact lenses. Most people would be able to wear contact lenses, depending on your eye health, prescription and lifestyle. We will advise you on the best option, unfortunately it could be some trial and error when looking for the most comfortable fit with the best vision. Unlike glasses, contact lenses act differently to each individual. But if you are willing to try so are we.

A: Because contact lenses are directly on the eyeball, infections are more likely to happen to contact lens wearer than to spectacle wearers. That is why regular and correct cleaning regime is crucial. The contact lenses we supply – clear, coloured or funky are of the best quality and we make sure our patients understand lens care. We will NEVER recommend buying contact lenses from anyone that is not an optometrist as we cannot for sure know the quality and hygiene involved.

A: It would be safe and advisable to say “No”. But with new advanced lens materials on the market, there are some lenses that are safer and more comfortable to sleep with. But please ask your optometrist which lenses has been approved for extended wear and whether you are a good candidate for those lenses. In these cases follow-up visits, hygiene and a good cleaning regime is non-negotiable.
